William S. Best Jr., 74, of Orefield, died Jan. 13, 2019, in his home.

He and his wife Maxine L. (Bratton) Best were married 49 years.

Born Jan. 2, 1945, in Williamsport, Lycoming County, he was the son of the late William S. Sr. and Florence G. (Cox) Best.

He was employed in information technology for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Conservation and Natural Resourses, for many years before retiring in 2007.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy stationed aboard aircraft carrier, USS Forrestal, during the Vietnam War era.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Lynn E. Glaser (David) of New Tripoli, Brian M. Best (Dee) of Nazareth; siblings Carol A. Fisher (Lanny) of Williamsport, Kenneth Best of Muncy; andnine grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
