Parkland High School music production students demonstrated their creativity and skills during a presentation called “Sight and Sound” Jan. 9 in the high school auditorium.
Under the direction of Dr. Scott Watson, 12 students using computer-based animation, old movie clips, instrumental and digital music, presented their creations.
Students exhibited remarkable creativity.
Brody Segan’s presentation was a Felix the Cat cartoon from 1922 with musical overtones of Johnny Cash.
Jordan Bucks partnered with Sriyaa Suresh to create the “Beast in the Bottle,” an anti-alcohol clip and Daniel Flecha had fun using a clip from the 1993 movie “Jurassic Park.”
According to information on the school’s website, the course introduces students to some of the most commonly used software and hardware tools for producing music for the marketplace (including desktop PC, multitrack recording software, electronic synthesizer keyboard, adding DSP effects (reverb, EQ, etc.), microphone technique, and music notation software for “lead sheets.
The class will stress application and creative content, using a series of projects to give students exposure to music production tasks such as recording various kinds of signals (live instruments and MIDI), using electronic instruments, basic song arranging, and equipment configuration.”
