Julius F. Iacocca
Julius F. Iacocca, 93, of South Whitehall Township died Jan. 10, 2019, surrounded by his family in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
The loving husband of Phyllis A. (Rose) Iacocca, the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 16, 2018.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Theodore and Assunta (Cocca) Iacocca.
A 1943 graduate of Allentown High School, after World War II he completed his education at Lehigh University graduating in 1948.
A first lieutenant in the Marine Corps during the war, he completed his officer training at the University of Notre Dame.
Following in the footsteps of his father, he became the second generation co-owner of Yocco’s Inc., along with his brother, Albert M. Iacocca.
He retired in 1993 but remained an advisor to his son Gary.
An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Brookside Country Club.
A lifelong Yankees fan, he was lucky enough to have attended the team’s perfect game.
He enjoyed playing a hand of poker or gin rummy with his friends.
He loved and adored his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Beau.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Linda S. Iacocca of Erin, N.Y., Cheryl A. Iacocca, wife of Jack Kogelman of Northampton, Gary J. Iacocca of Allentown, Lisa, wife of Dr. Mark Shoenberger of Emmaus; siblings Dr. Victor Iaccoca and his wife, Priscilla, of Broomall and Gloria Krause of Allentown.
He was predeceased by his son Gregory; brother, Albert M.; and daughter-in-law Dorothy Jean (Eakin) Iacocca.
Calling hours for family and friends will be from 4-8 p.m. Jan. 22 in J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th and Hamilton Sts., Allentown. Funeral services are private.
