District Attorney James B. (Jim) Martin has announced that he will run for re-election to the Oflice of District Attorney of Lehigh County in 2019.
He will seek the nomination of the Republican Party at the primarlz Election in May. Martin has been District Attorney of Lehigh County since January 1998 when he was appointed by the Lehigh County Commissioners to succeed Judge Robert L. Steinberg. He was elected to four-year terms in 1999,2OOS,2OOZ, 2O11, and 2015; and is the longest serving district attorney in the country,s
history. In 2015, he received 1771 write-in votes for the nomination of the Democrat party and, thus, was the nominee of both major parties.
Martin said, “It has been an honor and privilege to have served the citizens of Lehigh County as district attorney for 2l years. I believe that my leadership of this important oflice has been effective and that the citizens of Lehigh County, who have placed their trust in me, have been well served. The record compiled by our office has been outstanding, and I am quite comfortable
running on my record for a sixth elected term of office. When the record of the District Attorney’s Office under my leadership is scrutinized, as it should be, I believe the voters will be satisfied that the Office of District Attorney has been and is in good hands under my leadership, and that I deserve the opportunity to continue as district attorney.”
