Parkland swimming’s 2018-2019 campaign launched successfully during early season meets.

In their most recent meet, a Dec. 18 dual-meet at Pocono Mountain East, the Lady Trojans won 111-59 and the Parkland men defeated their rivals 129-41.

The meet featured many individual standout performances. Claire Weaver won the women’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.10, while Kayla Johnson turned in a strong performance in the women’s 200-yard individual medley at 2:17.88. Sidney Webb took the men’s 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.33.

Gavin Webb won the men’s 50-yard freestyle in 23.76, while Parkland standout Ally Lin won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.68. Kushner won the same meet on the men’s side in 58.86 and Kira Colarusso took the women’s 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.56. This was just an eyelash ahead of Weaver, her teammate, who finished in 57.57 and just ahead of the third place finisher Olivia Stevenson at 57.79.

Kushner, who had strong performances on this day, earned the victory in the men’s 100-yard freestyle at 54.37. Devon Corvaia won the women’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:40.84. James Zhang won the men’s 500-yard freestyle competition in 5:02.40 and Nicholas Carter took first place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.82. Leyna Fleischhacker won the women’s 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:18.26. Zhang won the same race on the men’s side in 1:08.07.

The Trojans also excelled in relay events. The Parkland men’s squad of Webb, Zhang, Kushner and Karl Schmidt took first place in the men’s 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48. On the women’s side Weaver, Johnson and Lauren Ceh and Shefalee Rane proved to be the best in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay. The Parkland men also won this race with the team of Zhang. Webb, Isaiah Moreef and Luke Willard coming out on top. The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay was claimed by the Parkland team of Kushner, Webb, Benjamin Marko and Nicholas Zaffiro in a time of 3:39.94.

Parkland’s pool masters also won victories over Liberty on Dec. 11 (124-62 women, 107-78 men). The Parkland women defeated Nazareth on Dec. 13 by the score of 123-61 and men tied the Blue Eagles at 93-93. The next day, Dec. 14, Parkland’s girls team took care of Cumberland Valley in a close meet 97-89 and the men came up on the short end of a 101-84 score.
