PHS wrestlers are off to a good start
Parkland wrestling was dominant in its opening season matches Dec. 12 against Dieruff, earning a 61-7 win.
Coach Mike Ottinger’s squad wasted no time getting down to business as Nathan Kresge (113) won in a fall in 3:39. After Gabe Montanez (120) won in a forfeit, tough guy Lucas Kern took care of his opponent in a tough match in 5:33.
Bryan Diaz (132) used only 38 second to win his first matchup of the year, while Mason Lansenderfer (138), who is expected to be a significant part of the Trojans’ machine this season, got off to a good start in winning his match in 1:38.
At 145 Joe Dolak was superb against the Huskies, needing only 17 seconds to finish off his opponent. Kale Cummings (152) received an 8-3 decision over his rival to win his opening season match.
Edwin Moya (160) won his match in 3:40 and Issac Kassis (170) won in a 16-4 decision. Jacob Ortman (182), Garrett Fitzgerald (220) and Cory Border (285) all won their matches. Only Raja Farakh (195) lost his match in a tough 7-4 decision.
A few days later, over the weekend of Dec. 14 and Dec. 15, the Trojans participated in the Penn Manor Tournament at Penn Manor High School where they finished 16th out of 26 schools with 72.5 points. Lucas Kern (126) won his fifth place match in 4:46 over Riley Eckman of Lampeter Strasburg High School. Border won his fifth place, 285 pound match over Zachary Shelley of Lampeter Strasburg High School in a fall.
The Trojans also beat Central Catholic early this season, 60-15. They fell to Freedom 38-23 in their final match before the holiday break.
Parkland will wrestle this weekend at the Bethlehem Holiday Tournament at Liberty.
