Business owners gift city fire dept.
Kate and Adam Flatt of the Social Still Micro-Distillery and Kitchen, 530 E. Third St., recently donated to the Bethlehem Fire Department Wish Fund. The monies will be used for a new thermal imaging camera.
City police officer honored
The Lehigh County Chiefs of Police Association’s Police Officer of the Year designation was awarded to Detective Michael DiLuzio of the City of Bethlehem Police Department.
A 12-year member of the department, he currently is assigned to the Lehigh County Computer Crimes Task Force. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
During 2018, he examined over 50 digital devices for various incidents in Lehigh and Northampton counties; initiated 10 investigations of child exploitation; and responded to 50 cybertips and cyber crime-related incidents, all crimes within his field of expertise. He has made six arrests, identified six victims who were previously unknown to law enforcement, and executed over 20 search warrants.
New Jersey officer aids city K-9
Brian Peck, a New Jersey correctional officer and president of “Sheepdog Cigar Club Inc.”, donated multiple large bags of dog food and supplements, a K-9 vehicle ramp and dog toys to the Bethlehem Police Department.
The donations will be used in the care and maintenance of Silver, a Labrador Retriever who is the department’s Arson K-9.
Ramps save joints from injury when a dog is jumping in and out of a police vehicle, which helps to prolong the dog’s service life.
BAVTS’s Stilgenbauer nationally honored
Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School’s Health Careers instructor Jenifer Stilgenbauer was honored with the Carl J. Schaefer Memorial Award for being teacher of the year at the National Association of Career and Technical Education Conference in Dallas, Texas.
She was recognized as an outstanding career and technical educator who employs a dynamic, rigorous teaching style with her students, many of whom are training to become health care professionals.
Dr. Carl J. Schaefer was a CTE educator and one of the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute’s founding fathers.
Locals named University Scholars
Several residents were recently honored as University Scholars at Susquehanna University. To be included, students must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 in full-time study for the past two semesters or equivalent credit hours of part-time study.
The two local students named are Emily Hoff, a 2019 business administration major, and Rachel Newman, a 2021 German education major.
