LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Girls top Zephyrs

Liberty’s girls’ swim team opened the high school swimming season with a 164-113 victory over Whitehall on Saturday at Liberty.

“It feels really good. I’m excited that our first meet was earlier, so now we got a start,” said Hurricane senior Kay Wetmore.

The Hurricanes won the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay, with the team of Samantha Taylor, Emma Reilly, Wetmore, and Greta Stuckey with a time of 2:00.78.

Molly Gray came in first in the 200 free with a time of 2:10.60, Abby Mack won the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.26, and Greta Stuckey won the 50 free with a time of 26.56.

In the 100 butterfly, Talia Lehr took first place with a time of 1:04.62, and in the 100 free, Natalie Richardson was first with a time of 59.70.

Kay Wetmore placed first in the 500 free with a time of 5:33.85.

“It was very tiring, the first one of the season, but I think overall I did pretty well,” Wetmore said.

Lehr, Mack, Richardson, and Stuckey combined to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.84.

Taylor won the backstroke in 1:04.44, and Reilly won the breaststroke in 1:18.58.

The Hurricanes closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay on a combination of Wetmore, Taylor, Stuckey, and Maddy Drager with a time of 4:02.21.

“I think we’re going to have a strong season. We have a lot of strong swimmers, and a lot of strong freshmen who came in, so I think overall, we’re going to do pretty well,” said Wetmore.
