William J. Tonkin IV

William J. Tonkin IV, 74, of Macungie, formerly of Emmaus, died Nov. 27, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Hoffmeir) Tonkin. They were married for 33 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Martha (Seitz) and William J. Tonkin III.

He was a graduate of Dieruff High School, attended Temple University and was a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Va.

He honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a police officer for South Whitehall Township for 26 years, retiring in 1996 with the rank of Lieutenant. After retirement, he was a district manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and security officer at William Allen High School for over 15 years.

He loved the Jersey Shore and traveling. His special love was time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Lori Hower, of Catasauqua; stepchildren, Christopher Newton, of Bethlehem and Kevin Newton, of Emmaus; grandsons, Danny Hower, Caleb Newton, Frankie Newton and Nathan Newton. He was predeceased by a son, William J. V.
