Ruth Emma Klase

Ruth Emma Klase, 90, of Slatington died Nov. 11, 2018, surrounded by her family.

She and her late husband, Richard Samuel Klase, were married 63 years.

Born Feb. 23, 1928, in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Russell E. and Mabel M. (Newhart) Haines.

She was a 1945 graduate of Slatington High School and was a registered nurse, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Cedar Crest College and Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing.

A lifelong resident of Slatington, she was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School.

She lived a life of service and volunteered with various organizations including: Meals on Wheels, Second Chance Charity Shop and Women’s Club.

She always displayed the fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

She loved traveling, reading, needlework, baking and gardening.

Her survivors include daughters Ruthanne K. Toner and husband, Terence, of Effort, Brenda K. Makar with whom she resided, Carolyn J. Andreas and husband, Jeffrey, of Schnecksville and Eileen L. Klase of Deale, Md.; grandchildren Joshua Andreas and wife Emily, Lindsay Andreas and Christine Fonio and husband, Ryan, all of Philadelphia

She was predeceased by a granddaughter Alyssa R. Toner.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Nov. 16 in Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville.

Family and friends may pay their respects 10-11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
