LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Mounted Unit welcomes friends

Residents of Bethlehem and throughout the region had an opportunity to learn more about the Bethlehem Police Department’s Mounted Patrol in early September. The second annual open house at the Quadrant Private Wealth Stable on East Langhorne Avenue had hundreds of visitors throughout the day, with activities for all ages. The day ended with a sold-out western barbecue.

Families could enjoy taking a shot at dropping Police Chief Mark DiLuzio into a dunk tank, pony rides, food vendors, mounted patrol training demonstrations, visits with a Cowboy Santa, photos in a horse stall, tours of the emergency response team’s armored vehicle, country line dancing lessons, food vendors, a Home Depot kids workshop, tours of the stable, and the purchase of mounted patrol souvenirs at a volunteer manned tent.

Chief DiLuzio summed up the community support and open house experience in opening remarks, saying, “this is more of a community project than a police project.”

OfFicers Michael Leaser, Ryan Danko, Jason Holschwander and Albert Stridesky on Grey, Pharoah, Asa and George, wait for the open house to begin.
