Bruce Chattin
Bruce Chattin, 86, of New Tripoli, died on Nov. 4, 2018.
Born Jan. 9, 1932, in Morristown, N.J., he was the son of the late Laurie and Catherine (Cuthbertson) Chattin.
He and his family moved to Weisenberg Township in 1945, and he graduated from Parkland High School in 1950.
He and his twin brother, Kent, helped manage the sizable family dairy farm which operated for many years.
The farm also produced a variety of crops, and they raised livestock including horses, goats and sheep.
The farm was the hub of many family activities including 73 consecutive years of family reunions.
He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed watching professional sports, especially Philadelphia Phillies baseball and Eagles football.
Having a passion for racing pigeons, he was a past president of the Northampton Racing Pigeon Club.
In addition, he successfully completed Professor Jesse Beery’s Mail Course in Horsemanship and he managed all the horses on the farm.
He was also awarded a certificate of appreciation from the Pennsylvania Game Commission in 1983 for participation in the Cooperative Farm Game Program.
Affectionately known as the “Valley Counselor,” he was always willing to provide his expert advice to family, friends and neighbors regarding any problem or topic. He will be missed dearly.
His survivors include a brother, Donald Sr. and wife, Marie, of Topton; sister Sandra Monroe and husband Richard of Littleton, New Hampshire; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many caring friends and neighbors.
He was predeceased by brothers Laurie, Richard, and twin brother Kent; and sister Barbara Fuller.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
