LaRue L. Rex

LaRue L. Rex, 90, of New Tripoli, died Oct. 11, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospice In-Patient Unit.

Born Oct. 13, 1927, in Kutztown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Herber) Heiser.

She and her husband, Harold F. Rex, were married more than 50 years until his death in 2000.

A graduate of Allentown High School and Allentown Business School, she retired from the Northwestern Lehigh School District, where she was a cook in the cafeteria for many years.

While she thoroughly enjoyed feeding “her kids” lunch at Weisenberg Elementary School, she also looked forward to “a week with the girls” at the Jersey shore.

Her favorite pastime was baking lemon sponge and shoofly pies for community bake sales or church functions.

She was a lifetime member of the Kutztown and Slatington Chapters, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served two terms as worthy matron.

She was proud to be recognized and honored at a Golden Star ceremony in 2016.

Until this past year, she was a member and longtime president of the Ontelaunee Lions and Lioness clubs.

She enjoyed singing with the Ziegels Church Choir where she was an active member, and with the Northwestern Choraliers.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Leonard C. Rex and wife, Karen, of New Tripoli; daughters Rita E. Grillo and husband, David, of Coopersburg, Adele M. Gliwa of Allentown and Lucy A. Quinn and husband Tim of Lititz; grandchildren Milton Kukoli, Jennifer Buesteton, Melissa Rex, Jeremy Rex, Kimberly Malsch, Kelly Muth, Carrie Gliwa, Travis Quinn, Ethan Quinn and Avery Quinn; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Buesteton; and brothers Forrest and Dennis Heiser.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2024 Lehigh St., Allentown, PA 18103 or to Ziegels Church Choir.
