Carol Allen
Carol Allen, 68, of Macungie, formerly of Morristown, N.J., died Oct. 2, 2018, at home. Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Delbert and Helen Allen.
She graduated from Kingston High School, Wilkes University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and German foreign language, from Lehigh University with a Master of Education degree as an elementary reading specialist and from Rutgers University with a reading supervisors’ certification.
She served on the faculty of Lehigh University as supervisor of graduate student teaching interns and as an adjunct professor at Lehigh Community College in reading/psychology prior to her retirement.
She had a storied career in education as she served as a K-8 reading specialist for 18 years as well as assistant to the principal at Livingston School District, N.J., from 1991 to 2009. She was also a K-5 reading specialist in the Allentown School District and taught German and remedial reading in both the Allentown and Wyoming Valley West school districts. Additionally, she held positions at Air Products in design engineering services and at TIAA-CREF as a manager of policy services.
After her retirement, she spent many hours volunteering at Willow Lane Elementary School and Lehigh Christian Academy.
She was a former member of the East Penn School Board.
She belonged to many clubs and organizations including Daughters of the American Revolution, Newcomers Club and the Emmaus Kiwanis Club.
She was an avid tennis and golf player and enjoyed reading and travel.
She is survived by her beloved furbabies Franklin and Marshall and family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to donate children’s books to their local libraries.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at Grace Church, Bethlehem, 521 E. Locust St., Bethlehem.
