Second chances don’t always come in life, but for Liberty’s volleyball team, they’ll have that opportunity when the District 11 tournament kicks off this Thursday.

Liberty (14-3), who lost to Central Catholic in the opening round of the EPC tournament, takes on Delaware Valley (14-3) in a four-five matchup at home with the hopes of making a run in districts.

The Hurricanes are in the opposite half of the bracket, meaning they’ll likely get a semifinal round battle against top-seeded Emmaus (16-4) should both teams advance.

After winning the EPC the past two seasons, Missy Lynn’s crew is picking up the pieces after a first round exit.

“We’re back at practice, business as usual,” she said. “They know what they have to do. We had a breakdown in passing against Central, and ended up out of system for the majority of the match. It’s not typically a skill I need to worry about with these girls. They have to be able to refocus and not let one bad pass turn into a bad game or match. I think, physically, we’re as ready as we’re doing to be. We just have to toughen up mentally.”

Freedom (11-7), the seventh seed, unfortunately finds themselves in the bottom bracket with the likes of third-seeded Nazareth (20-3), the EPC champ, and second-seeded Parkland (16-3), the EPC runner-up.

The Pates take on Easton, the tenth seed, in Thursday’s opening round at Parkland with the winner facing the Trojans that night at 6:45 p.m.

Liberty’s bout with Emmaus seems like a lock and the Hurricanes seem focused at the task at hand.

“I have a lot of confidence in my team,” said Lynn. “We should match up well against Delaware Valley. We haven’t played Emmaus yet, but we’re on a collision course with them and I’m excited to see what we can do against such a strong team. The top of this district is pretty evenly matched. I think we’re all in for some fun volleyball.”

In 3A, Bethlehem Catholic (12-6) faces a Central Catholic (12-6) in a four-five matchup in Wednesday’s opening round. The Vikings swept the Hawks earlier this season, but look for a dose of revenge in a rivalry contest to open the postseason.

The winner of match will take on top-seeded Southern Lehigh.
