George Henry Hamm
George Henry Hamm, 92, of Danville, formerly of Kempton, beloved husband and father, died Oct. 10, 2018, in his home.
He was the son of the late George D. Hamm and Pauline J. Levan Hamm, of Kempton.
He and his late wife, Gloria E. Longenberger Hamm, were married 61 years.
A 1943 graduate of Slatington High School, Slatington, he was a life-long farmer on his family’s farm near Kempton, working in dairy, field crops, Christmas trees, timber and other farm operations.
He was a native Pennsylvania Dutchman, like many residents of Albany Township and the surrounding area.
Late in life, he was well known for his contributions to historical works about Albany Township, Berks County, and the Kempton area.
A longtime member and supporter of New Bethel Union Church, Kempton, later in life, he became a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville.
He was also a long-time member of the Kempton Volunteer Fire Company.
Survivors include his daughter Gail E.H. (Doil) Myers of Danville; son Walter B. Hamm and his wife, Janet Spencer, of Stafford, Va.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sisters Rosa Wagaman and Margaret Fenstermacher.
A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 in New Bethel Church, 135 New Bethel Church Road, Kempton, PA 19529, with a visitation period beginning 10 a.m.
Pastor Ruth Laudermilich will officiate. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery.
