Liberty distance runners Darlyn Fermin and Cole Frank medaled at the EPC Cross Country Championships last Tuesday at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.
Fermin placed sixth with a time of 17:00.4.
“I went out faster than my normal pace,” Fermin said. “I don’t like it cold. I was doing fine until the second mile. At the finish, I had nothing left in my tank. [For districts] I may try to stay behind the top five and let them take the air. Then after that, I’ll have to go early with my kick.”
Frank placed eighth with a time of 17:10.1.
“I started off easy because I knew the hills were coming up, and then after the hills I really pushed it on the golf course,” Frank said. “After the first hill we went up, my arms started to get really tight and then I kind of loosened them up at the top and I felt better. I wanted to go 17 flat, but that’s OK.”
Freedom’s Nick Bauer placed 33rd in 18:02.1, Liberty’s Casey Frank was 43rd in 18:21.7, Liberty’s Ryan Wycherley came in 51st in 18:36.7, Freedom’s Dylan Stahl was 56th in 18:45.2, Liberty’s Paul Jensen was 57th in 18:45.8, and Bethlehem Catholic’s Matt Millen placed 58th in 18:48.9.
