The District 11 field hockey postseason gets underway this Wednesday and Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic both will be looking to move on in their respective brackets.
The Hurricanes (15-3-2) enter the fourth seed in the 4A tournament and open with tough contest at 7pm Wednesday night at home against fifth-seeded Stroudsburg.
Unfortunately, being a top four seed means the winner of Wednesday’s showdown will most likely take on an undefeated Emmaus (21-0) team in next Monday’s semifinals, should the Hornets dispatch of eighth-seeded Parkland (10-6).
The Hornets won the EPC title with a 2-1 win over Easton (17-3), as the Rovers look primed to make it a rematch in the district finals as they enter as the second seed with a matchup against seventh-seeded Northampton (12-7).
Pocono Mountain East (15-3-1) and Nazareth (13-6) are the other teams in the bottom bracket that would look to challenge the Rovers in the semifinals.
Liberty has beaten the Mounties in both of their encounter this season, first by a 1-0 affair in the regular season, then 2-0 in the opener of the EPC tournament.
Bethlehem Catholic (7-9-1) qualified for the 1A tournament as the fifth-seed, as they open up on the road against fourth-seeded Northern Lehigh (11-7) on Wednesday.
The winner gets top-seeded Lehighton (15-4-1) in the semifinals.
In the bottom bracket, Moravian Academy (13-4) is the second seed and they take on seventh-seeded Northwestern (9-8-1), while Wilson (12-6) and Palmerton (9-8-1) square off in a three-six matchup.
