Janet E. Salvage

Janet E. (Egner) Salvage, 75, died Sept. 27, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Bethlehem. She was the wife of Len Salvage for nearly 44 years. Born in Emmaus, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Egner.

She was a graduate of Emmaus High School and attended business school.

She was a dedicated employee of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 33 years.

She was active for many years with Pennsylvania Playhouse and played lead female roles in 25 plays.

She was a lover of books and freelance writer of articles, short stories and several poems. Her work appeared in “Short Stuff” magazine, the “Lehigh Valley Literary Review,” among others, as well as in the column “Her View” in the Express Times for over a decade beginning in the early 1990s.

After retirement, she volunteered and then worked part time at St. Luke’s Hospital for Information Services (Bethlehem campus). She was scheduled for a second retirement in October, which would have given her over 11 years of service.

She is survived by her husband; son, Jay Locher; sister, Kathy Thomas; two step-daughters, Colette Zoobi and Tracy; grandchildren, Samira and Ian; dog, Max.

Contributions may be made in her name to St. Luke’s Hospice House, 2455 Black River Road, Bethlehem, 18015.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 4 in the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. A visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
