Health data available on app for LVHN patients
Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) today supports Health Records on iPhone, which brings together hospitals, clinics and the existing Apple Health app to make it easy for patients to see their available medical data from multiple providers in a single location whenever they choose.
Any patient who has an iPhone and iOS 11.3 or later will be able to download their MyLVHN patient portal data through the Health app in iOS. Users are able to see their health data including allergies, medications, conditions, immunizations, lab results and more. When health record data is transferred from LVHN to the Health app, it is encrypted and does not traverse Apple’s network. When a user’s iPhone is locked with a pass code, Touch ID or Face ID, their health data in the Health app is encrypted on device.
Features for making appointments, refilling prescriptions and communicating with doctors remain available to LVHN patients through MyLVHN, which is used by 220,000 patients.
Previously, patients’ medical records were held in multiple locations, requiring patients to log into each care provider’s website and piece together the information manually. Apple worked with the health care community to take a consumer-friendly approach and created Health Records based on FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), a standard for transferring electronic medical records.
Now, LVHN patients will have medical information from their MyLVHN account organized into one view, covering allergies, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications, procedures and vitals and will receive notifications when their data is updated. Health Records data is encrypted and protected with the user’s iPhone pass code.
Here’s how patients can get started if they are registered in the MyLVHN patient portal:
• Open the Health app and click on “Health Data.”
• Press “Get Started.” You will be offered up suggested electronic health record systems based on your location.
• After you select LVHN, you will be prompted to log in to MyLVHN. (Or, if you select another participating patient portal, you will log in to that one.)
• Next, you will need to give permission to Apple to access your account.
• After that, your health information, including immunizations, lab results and even your proxy accounts will be available to you on Apple Health.
Apple Health extras include:
• The Health app counts your steps and walking distance. Challenge yourself to boost your daily distance.
• If you are looking to be healthier, the Health app will recommend and sync with other apps that will help you achieve your wellness goals in the areas fitness, nutrition and sleep.
