Edwin P. Kohler II
Edwin Philip Kohler II, 82, of Atlanta, Ga., died Sept. 6, 2018, of natural causes. He was the husband of the late Ellen (Hagelow) Kohler. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Edwin P. and Rosalie (Redman) Kohler.
After graduating from Emmaus High School he enlisted in the Army, serving three years, including time in Korea.
After serving time in the Army, he enrolled at Penn State University where he became a brother and eventually president of ACACIA fraternity while completing his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts in 1961. After graduation he served as a traveling advisor for ACACIA fraternity for several years. He and his wife settled in Atlanta, Ga., where he was hired as the fraternity advisor at Georgia Tech. During that time, he completed his master’s degree in educational administration at Georgia State University. He advanced at Georgia Tech eventually becoming part of the Dean of Student’s staff and working as the right hand of Dean James Dull until his retirement.
His work at Georgia Tech resulted in his achieving the designation of Honorary Alumnus and Associate Dean of Students Emeritus during his career.
He was a member of the Jaycees in his early Atlanta days and active in Penn State recruiting.
He was a member of Ansley Golf Club and a dedicated member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, serving as head usher for more than 20 years.
When he was not working, being a great husband and father or helping others, you could find him under the hood of a vehicle or tinkering with some type of engine.
He is survived by a sister, Helen and her husband Ron Stauffer; son, Philip and his wife Lois, son Forde and daughter Rachel; son, Eric and his wife Shannon, sons Ethan, Joshua and Jacob and daughter Ellie. He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn.
Memorials may be sent to The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
Funeral services will take place Oct. 7, at The Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, 731 Peachtree St. NE., Atlanta, Ga.
