Anthony A. Esposito

Anthony A. Esposito, 85, of Lower Macungie, died peacefully in his home Sept. 22, 2018. He was the husband of the late Marianne (Curley) Esposito for 54 years until her death in 2016.

He was a graduate of Old Forge High School and a lifelong fan of Old Forge pizza.

He proudly served his country during the Korean War and achieved the rank of corporal and served as a field and mash unit medic with the 31st Infantry Regiment and 2nd and 45th Infantry divisions. He received the Presidential Citation, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He began his career at Western Electric, Allentown, where he patented an efficiency procedure. He went on to work as an electronic supervisor at Philco Ford Corporation in Lansdale and then Mack Trucks where he spent 29 years as a supervisor and quality control engineer. He continued to serve as a consultant in the Mack Trucks Granite Program for several years after retiring.

In his early days, he served on the board of directors of the Allentown Jaycees where he received the Jaycees Citizen of the Year award. He was an active member of the Lower Lehigh Lions Club where he served as president and was awarded the Melvin Jones Award. He served as chairman of the Lower Macungie Halloween parade for 10 years.

He was most proud of his 49 year association with Easterseals Eastern Pennsylvania. In 1965, his daughter Ann was born with spina bifida, which led him to dedicate much of his time and talents to raising money for families with disabled children. He was a founding member of the Mary Ellen Golf Tournament, which to date has raised more than $2.3 million.

He was a devout Catholic and was a founding member of St. Thomas More where he served as an usher, altar server and Eucharistic Minister. He was a longtime member of M.O.S.T. and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 528.

He is survived by a daughter, Amy; sister, Rose Marie Preate and sister-in-law Claudia, both of Old Forge; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by daughter Ann; son, Scott; brothers, Joseph and John and sister Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. A calling hour will be held 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 28 in the church. Arrangements were made by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
