Lloyd A. Hummel

Lloyd A. Hummel, 89, formerly from Laurys Station, died Aug. 30, 2018, in Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation, South Whitehall.

He and his wife Phyllis J. (Royer) Hummel were married 67 years.

Born Aug. 29, 1929, in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Amos A. Hummel and Edith I. (Knecht) Hummel Brown.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II earning the rank of corporal.

An independent real estate agent for 24 years, he retired in 2004.

Before that, he was a supervisor of North Whitehall Township for four years and owned and operated the former J.M. Snyder & Son farm implement dealership in Neffs for 15 years.

Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, formerly serving on the consistory for many years.

He was past president of the North Whitehall Township Democratic Club, former member of the Slatington Rotary Club and volunteer at the former North Whitehall Ambulance Corps, now Northern Valley EMS (NOVA).

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Eileen L. Makovsky (David) of Schnecksville, Barbara J. Kintz (James) of Walnutport, Lou Ann Sechler (Wayne) of New Tripoli, Donna L. Derrick (Russell) of Bowmanstown; son Jeffrey T. Hummel (Fran) of Bath; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandsons.

He was predeceased by children David J. and Carol L. Hummel, and a sister, Hattie H. Rumfield.

His service will be private. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund c/o the funeral home, P.O. Box 196, Schnecksville, PA 18078-0196.

Arrangements were made by Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Schnecksville.
