Scott McClary to coach Becahi boys team

Bethlehem Catholic recently announced the hiring of long time area assistant Scott McClary to take over the boys’ basketball program.

McClary began his coaching career as an assistant at Muhlenberg College, before moving on as a varsity assistant at DeMatha Catholic (under legend Morgan Wooten), Bishop O’Connell High School and Coastal Carolina University. He landed his first head coaching job at Marymount University where he stayed for six years before returning home to lead his alma mater for eight years, at Muhlenberg College. This past year he coached as an assistant at Central Catholic.

“We are very excited to welcome Scott into our school community,” said Chris Domyan, Bethlehem Catholic Athletic Director. “He is one of the top basketball coaches, at any level, in the Lehigh Valley, and we look forward to him being tremendously successful here at Bethlehem Catholic.”

McClary is equally excited about starting a new chapter in his coaching career with the Hawks.

“My family and I couldn’t be more excited to join the Bethlehem Catholic family,” he said. “I have been blessed to coach at some of the very best places and at many levels of basketball, and I believe this community, school, and program is the perfect fit to continue the strong tradition in athletics and boys basketball.”

Domyan was most impressed with McClary’s credentials to take over and lead the program.

“Coming from the Division III collegiate atmosphere, Scott has an in-depth understanding of how our whole community and school functions,” Domyan said. “We use the same model of operations that you find at a school like Muhlenberg College. That, in addition to his impressive basketball acumen, made Scott a perfect fit for Bethlehem Catholic.
