Liberty field hockey team looks to keep their momentum going

After the first weekend of field hockey action, Liberty head coach Mary Kate Omdahl hopes her team can keep building with confidence throughout the season.

The Hurricanes started with a demolition over Dieruff last Friday and looked to keep it going on Tuesday in a showdown with Northampton.

With the success last year’s team had, Omdahl hopes that will permeate as this season gets underway.

“We are confident that we can be very competitive again this year,” said Omdahl. “We have worked hard to fill in spots that were vacated by graduation. I believe we are starting to develop a team chemistry on the field, but we continuously work on this. We need to have balanced scoring, quick decision making, and successfully apply what we have been working on all preseason.”

Freedom had a mixed bag in their opening weekend, as the Pates topped East Stroudsburg North 2-1 in their season opener, but fell to Salisbury 2-1 on Saturday. Meanwhile, Bethlehem Catholic didn’t get their year underway until yesterday with their opener against Easton.

Liberty now looks to keep things rolling this week.

“The big word that came out of almost all the players when we discussed team strengths is positivity,” Omdahl said. “They are anxious to get the season started and play some games. The players are looking to participate in the post season, but know they have a lot of work to do between now and then. With field hockey not having any divisions we don’t really have any repeat teams, except for Freedom, so we need to be prepared for anything thrown our way.”
