Alicia Chambers sealed the deal for the Hurricanes on a header with 2:53 left in Liberty’s 3-1 victory over Bethlehem Catholic on Saturday at Liberty.
“I just happened to be there,” said Chambers, after a cross from Kathryn Wescoe. “Early in the game, I had other opportunities to head it. That one was more like perfect timing.”
Becahi pulled to within one goal on a free kick by Emma Carreras with 14:34 remaining in the game.
Too close for comfort, the Hurricanes knew they had to score again.
“Usually when Kathryn has it on the outside, I’m expecting it,” Chambers said. “I usually score off my shoulders or legs. That was my first goal off a header.”
Julie Curti scored the Hurricanes’ first goal on a cross by Chambers in the second minute of the game.
“I was pretty excited,” said Curti. “We’ve been working on our crosses a lot.”
Merve Okumus scored the Hurricanes’ second goal, also in the first half.
“We just tried to come out as strong as we could,” Curti said. “We used [last year’s loss] to play better today. I think we played good for our first game.”
The Hurricanes will travel to Easton on Wednesday and William Allen on Friday before taking on Bangor at home on Monday.
