ACC is now an EPC South foe
For the first time in more than two seasons, the Parkland football team will take on Allentown Central Catholic in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference division game, as the Vikings return to the South Division after spending the past two years in the EPC North.
Both Parkland and Central are coming off victories on opening weekend. The Trojans shutout Northampton 41-0 at home and the Vikings took care of Stroudsburg on the road 38-14, both games were against EPC North Division teams.
Parkland, playing largely a new group of starters after the graduations of several key starters last season, started out slow last Friday, leading the Kids just 13-0. But in the second half they turned on the jets to the tune of 28 straight points, and held the Northampton offense in check all night to start the 2018 campaign with a win.
“Once our kids settled down they did an excellent job,” said head coach Tim Moncman. “We need to continue to gain game experience and get better from week to week.”
The Trojans, breaking in two new quarterbacks, primarily used the rushing attack to put up points on the scoreboard.
Central did a lot of the same things. Senior tailback Logan Bachman is a force. He is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. He rushed 29 times for 223 yards and three touchdowns against the Mounties. The offensive line in front of him is also a big and solid unit helping to pave the way.
“Central is very big and physical,” Moncman said. “Their running back runs hard and weighs 220 pounds. They’re able to run and pass equally well. Defensively they’re aggressive and blitz a lot. We must improve our pass game from last week.”
With most games being played on Friday night, this one will be a showcase for Lehigh Valley football fans. Both teams look to continue to keep their unbeaten streak going.
