Hornets hammer Canaries 62-6

Emmaus football revved the engine, stepped on the pedal and tore out at 100 mph right over the Allen Canaries in their 2018 season opener Aug. 24.

The Hornets steamrolled the Caries 62-6 last Friday night in Emmaus. Here’s how they did it.

Offense

The Hornets showed great depth at the skill positions, with eight different men carrying the ball.

Emmaus posted 299 total yards with 249 yards coming through a blistering ground assault.

”We did well and got off to a great start,” said Hornet head coach Harold Fairclough. “We spread the ball out to different runners early.”

The Hornets racked up 20 first downs on only 36 offensive plays.

The offensive line, a question mark going into the season, won individual and team battles up front, controlling the line of scrimmage against a mostly larger Allen front.

“Physically we’re not going to be bigger than too many teams, but we played pretty well,” said Fairclough.

Running back Lubens Myers had touchdown runs of eight yards and one yard and was a presence all night.

“He played a great game,” said Fairclough. “He ran with a sense of purpose.”

Running back Sone Ntoh gobbled up 74 yards carrying the pill, scoring two touchdowns, including a beautiful 45-yard jaunt in the first quarter.

Quarterback Ethan Parvel also crossed the end zone stripe on a 6-yard run and completed five of eight passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns in addition to displaying solid leadership skills and making good reads.

“Ethan played a very good game” Fairclough said. “He moved us down the field.”

Brandon Camire and Cole Scott also hit pay dirt on touchdown runs. Parvel played pitch and catch with receiver Izaiah McPherson on one ball for 36 yards. Deonte Castro caught three passes.Emmaus did not commit a turnover.

Defense

The Hornets made life miserable for the Canaries, making good reads, defeating most blocks and using good quickness to thwart Allen. Emmaus claimed three turnovers, scoring a touchdown off each while holding Allen to 176 total yards

The Canaries registered 86 yards rushing on 19 attempts

Free safety Carlton Lovett was among the top defenders, registering four solo tackles.

“He worked hard in the offseason and is playing with a lot more confidence.”

Linebacker Timmy Higgins played with an attitude, making two solo tackles and assisting on three others, in addition to showing good lateral footwork and shedding blocks with a mean streak.

“He was active all night and went sideline to sideline,” Fairclough said.

Jacob Wieder also had two tackles and three assists. Fairclough was pleased with Sam Goodge, Adam Heiserman and Ntoh, who were also active in tormenting Allen’s offense.

Special teams

Myers displayed dazzling running on a 45-yard kickoff return. Anthony DeCresci connected on seven extra points and Alex Orlando made one. One point after try was unsuccessful. The special teams played especially on their kickoff team beating blocks and making solid tackles on Allen runners, forcing the Allen offense to operate on a longer field.
