LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Summer fun at the library

If it’s a Tuesday evening during the summer, it’s game night for children at the Bethlehem Area Public Library. Perhaps because it was raining or maybe because Musikfest was in full swing, the group that gathered Aug. 7 was small, but everyone seemed to be having a great time.

On entering the room where the games are played on the upper level of the library – technically, the Frances L. Barnard Children’s Center – attendees could select a game to play from the many on a table, including such favorites as Candy Land, UNO, Checkers and Scattergories, to name a few. As the children played intently, Edana Hoy, head of youth services at the library, brought a bowl of popcorn to the children at each table.

Game Night is one of numerous offerings for young people at the library. Among other programs this summer were book discussions, a performance by the “Rockin’ Kids Band, Project 32,” a STEM program on bugs, and a Teen Coffee and Coloring event. In addition, there are multiple programs for youth throughout the year. Information about these programs is available at the desk in the Children’s Center on the upper level of the library. Flyers on the various programs are available and library staff are happy to answer questions about them.

There is no charge for any of the summer events. Several concerts and guest presentations for children this summer were generously supported by the Friends of Bethlehem Area Public Library.
