BETHLEHEM-Apollo Grille donates to local causes
Continuing its community involvement since opening in 1999, the Apollo Grill recently presented checks to four local charities through its “Be Apollo Proud” program.
Owner Rachel Griffith Fox and general manager Jansen Howard presented checks to representatives from Valley Youth House ($3,260.50), the Bethlehem YWCA ($3,155.50), the LGBT Business Council Scholarship Fund ($3,315.50) and Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center ($2,825.50) July 31.
Funds were raised through the Apollo’s month of charitable giving in June with a percentage of sales designated to a specific cause on each Thursday during the month, local business sponsors, and a raffle.
Bradbury-Sullivan executive director Adrian Shanker said the money donated would provide continued support for arts, health and youth programs.
Bethlehem YWCA executive director Stephanie Hnatiw said funding would support breast health education for residents of the Bethlehem Housing Authority, adult daycare, TechGyrls and girls golf programming. Valley Youth House vice president of development and marketing Christina Schoemaker said the donation would fund programs that support over 31,000 youths in her organization’s coverage area.
LGBT Business Council President Jonathan Huerta and Vice President Donald Flad Jr. said the money would allow their organization to fund a second year of scholarships, a program that saw three scholarships awarded in its first year of operation.
Griffith Fox said that she believes in “keeping the spirit of the Apollo alive by continuing to support the community that supports us.” “This is the community that we both live in and work in,” she added.
