Sherwood G. Rabenold

Sherwood G. Rabenold, 89, of Whitehall, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who by His shed blood had paid the penalty for all his sins and provided His imputed righteousness to reconcile him to a Holy God, and as promised, eternal life, on July 29, 2018.

Born July 19, 1929, in Easton, he was the only child of the late Charles E. and Evelyn K. (Purdy) Rabenold.

He and his wife Dorothy Ann (Crouch) Rabenold were married 62 years.

A 1937 graduate of Conrad High School, Wilmington, Del., he later graduated from the University of Delaware in 1951, with a degree in finance.

He was then hired by General Electric for its business training course in Lynn, Mass.

This was interrupted by two years of service, 1952-54, in the U.S. Navy.

He was named controller of Gardner Cryogenics Corp., producer of helium and related hardware items, which Air Products purchased in 1980.

At Air Products, he continued to watch over total helium sales worldwide and report on profitability.

In 1983, he was offered a position of manager of the APCI Federal Credit Union, which gave him the opportunity to install a centralized computer system capable of providing many new services, such as checking, home loans and all walk-in services.

He retired from Air Products and Chemicals Inc. in 1991.

Key verse for a Christian: “Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (II Cor. 10:5).

During his working years and into retirement, he and his wife were always active in the Lord’s work helping to establish three churches.

He served as prayer leader, deacon and elder conducting many Bible studies in various locations.

For 20 years, he served on the Board of Directors of the Allentown Rescue Mission, and for many years was a very active member of Gideon International.

After his retirement in 1991, he attended Biblical Seminary and earned a Master’s degree in counseling in 1998.

He began a free church counseling service.

With continued help from his wife, they began visiting nursing homes and helping with associated church activities until the need to downsize and move from Orefield to Whitehall in 2010.

Both are members of the Whitehall Bible Fellowship Church.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son David W. Rabenold and his wife, Carol, of Coplay; daughter Donna J. Shaffer and her husband, Dennis, of Greencastle; grandchildren Kristen Beaver, and her husband, Aaron, and children Noah, Ansley, Silas, Oliver; Brooke Connally, and husband, Daniel, and children Ryland, Sawyer and Wesley; Lauren Mowen, and husband, Ryan, and child Elliott and baby, Mowen, who is due in February 2019.
