Robert A. Flexer

Robert A. Flexer, 79, of Emmaus, died peacefully July 19, 2018, in his home. He was the husband of Miriam (Stauffer) Flexer. They would have been married for 55 years on Aug. 3. Born in Upper Milford Township, he was a son of the late Clarence “Jim” and Emma (Schmeltzle) Flexer.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator throughout the Lehigh Valley for over 44 years, retiring from Schlouch, Inc. in 2000. His former employers included C.T. Flexer Estates, H.R. Kline Petroleum, John Hillegass Excavating, Petroleum Contractors and Gordon Baver, Inc.

He enjoyed being out in the fresh air and listening to bluegrass gospel music.

He was a longtime member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Zionsville, where he served as a former church trustee.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who cherished the time he spent with his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Blaine and his wife, Cheryl, of Fogelsville, Travis and his wife, Christina, of Alburtis, Emery and his wife, Monaca, of Emmaus; brothers, Clinton and his wife, Patricia, James, husband of the late Lois and Kenneth and his wife, Karen, all of Emmaus; grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob and Thomas; sisters-in-law, Alice, wife of the late Aurel Arndt; Merle, wife of Richard Leh and Norma, wife of Richard; brother-in-law, Russell Stauffer; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Joyce and her husband the late Harold Herb and sister-in-law, Blanche Stauffer.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Salem United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. July 25 at Salem United Methodist Church, 6440 Powder Valley Road, Zionsville, 18092. Family and friends are invited to a viewing 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville.
