The Moore Township Connie Mack baseball has plenty of momentum heading into this weekend’s state playoffs.
Since losing to Emmaus on June 13, the Red Hawks have won eight of their last nine games and out-scored opponents 72-25. The lone 2-1 loss came in the Lehigh Valley semifinals to Northeast Bethlehem.
Moore Township defeated Northern Valley and Northampton in the Lehigh Valley playoffs to qualify for states.
Starting pitcher Ryan Kovach struck out five and threw a complete game against the K-Kids to pick up the 7-3 victory.
Tied at two in the top of the fifth inning, the Red Hawks exploded for five runs to break the game open. Jaren Martin went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Garrett Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored.
Moore Township is scheduled to take on South Parkland in the opening round of the state tournament on Friday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Limeport Stadium. South Parkland finished first in the 23-team league, but was bounced in the first round of the Lehigh Valley playoffs.
