Whitehall Township Fire Department responded to the scene of a deck collapse just before 7 p.m. July 14 at 1854 Georgia Drive. According to Fire Chief David Nelson, a total of 10 patients were transported by Cetronia and Macungie ambulance corps and NOVA EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and St. Luke’s Allentown and Bethlehem campuses for treatment of injuries ranging from broken bones to abrasions. It appears structural issues, lack of maintenance on the deck and the amount of people on the deck all played a part in the collapse, Nelson said. “We would recommend that if you feel your deck is swaying, you have it professionally looked at, as well as upkeep on the boards and siding to prevent catastrophe,” he added.
