Barbara M. Schmid, of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Charles Town, W. Va., died June 15, 2018, in her home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Maria B. Schmid, of Emmaus and Erwin R. Schmid, of Allentown.
She was a graduate of Emmaus High School and Pennsylvania State University with an advanced degree from American University.
As a computer science major, she began a long career working for various agencies on government related contracts and projects. She worked for the Department of Defense and served as a project manager at SAIC, a company providing government services and information technology support.
In 2017 following a brief retirement, she moved to the Plantation Village Retirement Community and was a member of Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, Wilmington.
A loving and devoted mother and daughter, she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Shannon M. Hignite, of Garner, N.C.; mother; father; sister, Gloria E., of Hanover, Mass. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer “Jenny” M. Hignite and brother, Richard P.
