The Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team continued play in the Carpenter Cup Softball Classic, sponsored by the Philadelphia Phillies, last Wednesday at FDR Park in Philadelphia.
In its first game of the day, Lehigh Valley defeated Burlington County, 6-3.
Kelly Dulaney (Parkland) was the winning pitcher, and Hannah Palinkas (Emmaus) also pitched for Lehigh Valley.
The game was tied 1-1 until the third inning when Lehigh Valley scored four runs.
Morgan Karasek (Bangor) had a triple, and Addie Roche (Bethlehem Catholic) had a base hit that scored two runs.
Zariah Alvin (Easton), Mya Zettlemoyer (Allentown Central Catholic), and Karasek had two hits apiece against Burlington County.
Burlington County came back with two more runs later in the game and finished with seven hits,
“We were a little nervous about it, but we felt defensively really strong, and that we could knock down the balls they hit,” said Roche.
Burlington County had a total of seven hits, and Lehigh Valley had nine.
