Earlier this season Wanderers head coach Dwight Pulieri wasn’t sure what type of team he was going to have this summer, but through 11 games, the Wanderers have proven to be a quality side in NORCO.
The Wanderers came out of the weekend with a 9-2 record on the season and appear to be one of the top teams in the league this season sitting behind a 10-2 Northampton team in the standings.
That Northampton team was the only one to top the Wanderers this year before Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Palmer. Falling to Northampton would be a game the team would love to get back following a 9-4 defeat earlier this season.
“We’re happy with our start to the season,” said Pulieri. “Before our loss at Northampton we were getting excellent pitching and excellent defense. That was not the case against them. So like I said before the jury is still out on us. We’ve struggled to get key hits at times this season, but I think we’ll be alright.”
Northampton, Wanderers and Nazareth (10-2) are in a three-way race for the top of the standings. It should be a heated battle until the end of the regular season.
“We have a well-balanced roster 1 through 18 with no superstars but a lot of depth,” said Pulieri. “I think as far as the record is concerned we are where we should be but we’ll see what type of playoff team we become.”
Bankos (7-3) is keeping themselves in the mix for a top-four playoff seed as they picked up two more wins over the weekend by knocking off East Stroudsburg 12-4 and edging Freemansburg 9-8.
Freemansburg, on the other hand, look like they will be out of the playoff picture this summer, as their latest loss to Bankos dropped them to 2-9 on the year.
