Two early-morning shootings reported

Bethlehem Police Chief Mark DiLuzio in a release Monday said two people were found dead at separate locations early that morning.

DiLuzio said a dispatch to Bayard Street around 3:25 a.m. to check on the welfare of an individual led officers to discover the first body. Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said John Schmoock, 33, died of gunshot wounds in a manner suggesting a homicide.

A roommate and vehicle were missing.

A short while later, as part of the investigation, officers in a West Third Street building found the second body. This was Schmoock’s roommate, 30-year-old Sean Ferry. Lysek said the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and the death was rules a suicide.

DiLuzio said there is no immediate threat to the community and police are not seeking any other people of interest at this time.
