They said it: A look back at Becahi’s softball season

Before the season

“We expect to be pretty good. We only lost one player [to graduation].”

- Rich Mazza said.

After a big win

over Easton

“[Juliana Presto] was pitching all inside, so I stepped off the plate a little bit and drove through the ball. I think it got us all hyped up, especially that we got ahead in the game. We stuck with that mentality even out on the field.”

- Jess Indelicato

“Very much [surprised]. Very much. I know we have hitters, but you know, some days we hit, some days we don’t, but I’m impressed with the way we hit the ball today.

“We started out by beating Parkland, and then we got beat by Liberty, and that’s high school sports. You have good days and bad days, and right now, we’re having pretty good days. Stroudsburg was a nice team, and we beat them, so, we’ll see.”

- Rich Mazza

After beating Liberty

“I only hit one over in my life before. I was looking for the exact pitch I got, so when I first hit it, I had to turn and ask my coach if I hit it over because I didn’t think I did. I know we’re having a good hitting year and so are they, and we respect that they can hit the ball, and it was a very high scoring game but we can also hit, and that’s what we did today.”

- Julia Sledz

“When my team came back, that really changed up the game for me. Yes, yes, more calm, my team was more calm on defense and hitting-wise, even though it kind of slowed down in the middle of the game. You just push through it, especially with one out and people on first and second.”

- Tatum Kresley

“This team has big goals. We believe that if we play our best every game, we can make it all the way.”

- Alexa Panuccio

Before district finals

“We just had to make sure that we did all the fundamentals to get the job done, and that’s pretty much it. We just kept the same mindset during the game, never let up, always pushed our hardest, and that’s why the score was how it was.”

- Alexa Panuccio

“I’m looking forward to being back in the district final. It’s been since sophomore year, and I was hurt most of last year, and every game I play could potentially be my last game of softball, so that drive is in there, like I have to win, I want to keep playing, so that’s the most exciting part.”

- Julia Sledz

“We’re going to continue doing pretty much everything we do. There’s a couple things we saw that I think we can work on that will help us against Bangor.

“This is the time of year you want to reach your peak. You want to keep them motivated but you want to make sure that halfway through the season they don’t start going downhill. You reach your peak and then it is downhill, so that’s what you’ve got to watch.”

- Rich Mazza

After winning districts

“Amazing. Amazing. I love this team. I can’t wait for states.”

- Tatum Kresley

“When I was up to bat, I hit a couple foul balls, and I felt that I was going to get a hit. I figured it was just going to be a base hit, but I was fouling her off pretty hard,” Jiminez said. “It felt great. I knew we won it then.”

- Alyssa Jiminez
