Allen M.M. George Jr.
Allen M.M. “Sonny” George, Jr., 77, of North Whitehall Township, died June 13, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
Born May 27, 1941, in Ballietsville, he was the son of the late Allen M.M. and Ethel M. (Schneck) George.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era.
President and co-owner of the Ironton Telephone Co., he was a lifelong gentleman farmer.
During his youth, he was an active 4-H member.
Over the last few weeks, he planted 200 acres of crops.
Having a love of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling, and his greatest passion in life was drag racing.
He recently won drag racing’s most prestigious trophy, the NHRA Wally Award, and was inducted into the Drag Racing Hall of Fame in North Carolina.
He was an executive member of the East Penn Late Great Chevy Club and past president of MANDRA.
His survivors include sisters Dorothy A. George of Slatington, Patricia L. Stewart (Richard) of Coplay, Rose Marie Beck of Schnecksville, Nancy J. Werner (Alfred) of East Greenville, Roberta F. George (Kevin Brey) of Pennsburg, Sonia E. Fink (David) of Germansville, Carolyn M. George of Schnecksville; 10 nephews and one niece.
He was predeceased by a brother William D. George II.
