Parkway Manor Elementary School has been introducing students as early as second grade to chess.
Though a relatively easy game to learn, it takes many years to master.
With the help of mentors such as Pennsylvania State Chess Champions Sahasra and Sriman Goli and “Coach” Conrad Lee, Parkland High School Chess Team member, these youngsters will have an opportunity to become better at a game that is believed to have been created before the 7th century.
There are strong family ties between the mentor group as siblings and parents take pride in being together.
The club could use additional volunteers who have an interest in seeing chess grow as a challenging mental activity and reason for families to connect.
Contact Parkway Manor Elementary School at 610-351-6850 to volunteer.
