Newhard Pharmacy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house May 19 to introduce the new chapter in its iconic legacy - a partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network to provide walk-in laboratory services, blood work and cholesterol checks.

This venture marks the first time St. Luke’s Health Network has offered its laboratory services via an independent local business.

For its part, New- hard Pharmacy has designed and created a special section of the pharmacy at the 1001 Main St. location to house the lab services and is providing a permanent staff member at the new state-of-the-art facility.

Thomas Reenock, Northampton Borough mayor; Dayton Beasley, regional outreach lab manager; and Anthony Pristash, Northampton Area Chamber of Commerce president and borough councilman, joined pharmacy owner John J. Pavis and his wife, Deborah, to celebrate the special occasion.

Pavis said the pharmacy is grateful to the community, patrons and staff for their support, adding the pharmacy will continue to earn their trust by providing the highest-quality services, such as those provided by St. Luke’s University Health Network.

In remarks, Ree- nock and Pristash cited the long history Newhard Pharmacy has had in the borough and with its residents.

Newhard Pharmacy was established in the 1890s and has been a fixture in the borough ever since.

Since 1975, the pharmacy has been at 1001 Main St., the site of the former Northampton & Bath Railroad Station. This has allowed the pharmacy to become a one-stop shop for the surrounding community.

Pavis became the sole owner of Newhard Pharmacy in 2015, 46 years after his father and a partner purchased the pharmacy.

Founded in 1872, St. Luke’s University Health Network is a fully integrated regional nonprofit network of 14,000 employees providing services to 10 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient sites.
