Seabrooks takes first

Bethlehem Catholic sprinter Zaheer Seabrooks clinched the gold medal in the 100 meter dash at the District XI Class 3A Boys Track and Field Championships last Wednesday at Whitehall High School.

“That was my best race all year. I was a hundred percent, and when I crossed the finish line, I looked at my teammate Joe Kurtz, and he was proud of me, and I was proud of him,” Seabrooks said.

Kurtz placed fourth with a time of 11.32. Seabrooks’s time was 11.25.

“I just wanted to prove myself here today. This year it was up for grabs, and I felt really confident about it,” said Seabrooks. “Today in school, I kind of stayed to myself a little bit. I had to get in the zone, get focused, and get ready for the race. It worked really well. I was calm and ready to go.”

Adding to the thrill of victory for Seabrooks was the medal ceremony.

“It felt amazing, especially coming from my old football coach [Chuck Dailey] freshman year at my old school [East Stroudsburg North]. He got to hand it to me, so it felt really good,” said Seabrooks.

Kurtz, who also competed in the 200 meter dash, placed third with a time of 23.02.

Becahi’s Bobby Kulp took second place in the high jump, and Matt Stianche took third. Both jumped a 6-03.00.

Liberty’s Daeshawn Teague won a silver medal in the long jump with a distance of 22-06.50, and teammate Javonte Haynes won bronze in the same event with a distance of 22-02.50.

Also from Liberty, Christian Tackett took second place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.35.

In district team results, Liberty’s boys placed fourth behind Easton, Parkland, and Jim Thorpe.
