Two K-Kids win gold medals

The Northampton track and field team took home three gold medals from last week’s East Penn Conference meet at Whitehall.

Senior pole vaulter Alexis Barrall captured her second conference title with a jump of 10-9. The school record holder and defending District XI champion is peaking at the end of the season.

“It definitely feels better this year,” Barrall said. “I feel as if I deserve it more because of the height I jumped. Last year I won EPC’s with a 10-foot jump and I was happy to win, just not quite happy with my performance. This year it felt a little more deserving.”

On the boys’ side, senior Zachery Liggitt brought home gold in both the shot put and discus events. After placing seventh in the shot put and third in the discus a year ago, Liggitt won both events this year with a shot put of 51-9.25 and a discuss toss of 143-1.

Jared Sebesta finished fourth in the shot put.

Senior Jared Jackson finished second in the 400 behind Parkland’s Mustapha Salau. Nicholas Bodnar finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Weather pending, the District XI championships are scheduled for May 16 and 17 at the Zephyr Sports Complex in Whitehall.

The event was already canceled Tuesday because of the threat of severe weather.
