Parkland only needed one run to win Monday’s Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinal softball game. The No. 2 seed Trojans got the game’s only run in the second inning then held off a seventh-inning rally from No. 3 Easton to advance to this week’s title game with a 1-0 victory.

The Rovers had their best chance to score when Gillian Walsh blasted a double to the right-field fence to lead off the seventh inning. But Parkland got out of the inning with two ground outs and a strike out to complete the three-hit shut out.

“She had a great hit and we had no outs,” said Parkland pitcher Kelley Dulaney. “I knew I just had to trust my defense and we got the job done.”

After Walsh’s double to start the last inning, Parkland intentionally walked the next batter. Easton failed to bunt the runners over with no outs before Dulaney induced a ground out for the first out and then struck out the next batter.

“I felt like that kind of swung the momentum our way,” she said.

She quickly put Easton’s Kelsye Novick behind in the count at 0-2 a ground out to Jenna Lehr at second base to ended the game.

Dulaney allowed just three hits in the game while striking out five batters. She got ahead in counts consistently, throwing a first-pitch strike to all but four batters in the game.

She also had the game-winning RBI.

After Kiara Bryant hit a two-out single in the second inning, Dulaney ripped a double down the left-field line to bring in Bryant and put her team ahead.

Parkland also had just three hits in the game as Caroline Rivera had the other hit for the Trojans with a bunt single to lead off the third inning.

The Trojans move on to face either No. 5 Bethlehem Catholic or No. 8 Liberty in the finals, scheduled for Thursday at Pates Park.
