Parkland Garden Club honors scholarship, contest winners

Parkland Garden Club presented its annual $1,000 scholarship to Benjamin Delin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Delin.

Delin, who graduated from Parkland High School in June 2017, and majors in environmental science at Christopher Newport University in Virginia.

The scholarship was presented by Sue Weber, scholarship chairman, at the club’s monthly meeting.

Parkland has been presenting an annual scholarship since 1980.

Leah Wenhold, a 2017 graduate of Temple University, received the Doreen Dew Kauffman Scholarship Award for $1,000 from the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania at the meeting.

Wenhold is pursuing a master’s degree in hydrogeology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster contest winners were also honored.

The contest is sponsored by National Garden Clubs Inc.

Michael Oliver was recognized for advancing from first place at the state level to first place at the Central Atlantic Region level for his poster from 2016, when he was a fifth-grade student.
