Carl C. Gingrich Jr., 89, formerly of Emmaus, died April 24, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Iva M. (Swavely) Gingrich, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Mildred L. (Blair) and Carl C. Gingrich Sr.
He was a graduate of Lehigh University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked for Western Electric, Allentown, for 32 years, retiring as an electrical engineering supervisor in 1985 and was a registered professional engineer.
He was an active member of the Emmaus Moravian Church, serving on the Board of Elders and Trustees, choir member for 50 years, choir library records manager, member of the brass choir and Sunday school superintendent.
He honorably served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
He was a member and past president of the Emmaus Rotary Club, Emmaus Public Library Board of Directors, Shelter House Board of Directors, member of IEEE, amateur radio operator, and member of Toastmasters.
He is survived by his wife; children, Cheryl Ferrich, of Allentown, Gilbert and his wife Cathy, of Kutztown and Janet and her husband Walter Morkowchuk, of Germansville; brother, Blair H. and his wife Helen, of Florida; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to Emmaus Moravian Church, 148 Main St., Emmaus, 18049 for the maintenance of the historical buildings.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. May 25 at Emmaus Moravian Church. Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
