Hobart E. McGonigle
Hobart E. McGonigle, 81, died April 20, 2018, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, where he was a guest for the last four months.
A son of the late James and Margaret (Lentz) McGonigle, he was born in the north end of Allentown with no TVs or computers, but he had a great childhood.
He was raised with Jordan Park as his backyard, with many friends, including his five siblings.
A member of the former Dubbs Memorial United Church of Christ, he was most recently a member of St. John’s UCC, Fullerton.
A 1955 graduate of Allentown High School, he served with the U.S. Army in Germany, and upon his return to Allentown, went to work at Bonney Forge and Tool Works for the next 40 years.
An adventurer, he liked to drive, and every year would take a three- to four-week trip by himself, never sure of his destination, mostly out West.
He will be remembered as a kind, gentle, soft-spoken man who was loved.
His survivors include sisters Patricia Taylor and husband, Benjamin, Eleanor O’Donnell and husband, Joseph, Jean McGonigle, with whom he resided; sister-in-law Ella McGonigle; cousin Diane Smith and husband, Robert; nephews John Taylor (Meg), Brian O’Donnell (Sally), Mark O’Donnell (Brenda); nieces Barbara Gallen (Andrew), Lori Muscarella (Gary), Lynn Grim (Kenn), Kerin Nicholas (Drew), Elaine Schmoyer; 21 great-nephews and nieces; and eight great-great-nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by brothers Charles “Buddy” and James McGonigle, sister-in-law Joan McGonigle, nieces Kelly Jean McGonigle and Susan Taylor-Degnan, nephew David O’Donnell and great-nephew Marc McGonigle.
