Roman reaches 100 hits

Ninety-eight, 99, 100. That’s what Freedom outfielder Julia Roman did last Friday, delivering her 100th career hit with a home run in the bottom of the seventh in the Pates’ 7-6 victory over Liberty at Freedom.

“I’m very excited. That was a milestone I’ve been wanting since freshman year,” Roman said.

Roman crossed the plate to an emptied Patriot dugout. That’s when she found out it was her 100th hit.

“I had no idea that it was my 100th. I thought I was at 94. I didn’t know I was so close,” said Roman. “When I scored that run, Taylor Resetar told me that was my 100th hit.”

Roman was actually at 97 prior to the start of Friday’s game. Number 98 was a home run in the first inning, and number 99 was a single in the fifth inning.

Adding to the excitement of number 100 was that the Patriots were beginning a comeback from a three-run deficit in the seventh inning at home against Liberty.

“It’s exciting,” said Roman. “This is our rival and we were still down after I hit the home run, but I knew that my team was going to come back and score more runs after that. I knew that my team was going to do what we just did.”
