At the beginning of the 2018 season, Northampton boys’ lacrosse coach Jace Shively said, “We are blessed with really good kids that buy in to the system. They do their best and never quit. It will be an exciting season.”
‘Exciting’ might be an understatement for the week that the K-Kids just had.
Northampton picked up its third win of the season in a 10-9 thriller over Pleasant Valley on Thursday, April 19. Junior midfielder Garrett Transue led the team with four goals in the contest and senior midfielder Jacob Treichler scored the game-winner in overtime.
Aiden Jones added three goals and an assist, with Damon Hudak and Greg Milnes each recording a goal.
Unfortunately for the K-Kids, the tables were turned less than 48 hours later. Northampton dropped a 9-8 nail-biter at Pottsgrove on Saturday, April 21.
The K-Kids had the lead with under two minutes remaining, but a late penalty gave Pottsgrove a power play opportunity, which they took advantage of. The Falcons scored two goals in the last 1:30 of the contest to steal the victory.
Coach Shively called the loss, “A good learning experience I hope we can take forward.”
Hudak led the K-Kids with three goals. Transue and freshman Devon Dragovits each recorded two goals, and junior Kyle Wescoe added one.
The K-Kids will have an opportunity to end the season on a high note and continue to gain momentum for the program. Three of their last five games are against teams that Northampton has already beaten this season: Home vs. Bethlehem Catholic on April 27, home vs. Liberty on May 3, and at Pleasant Valley in the season finale on May 7.
